====== Penambakan Tanjung Tokong (1997-Kini) ======
| |
===== Ringkasan ===== | |
| |

//"The project that is now known as “Seri Tanjung Pinang” was first mooted by Penang’s second Chief Minister in the 1980s. Historically, the concession was given by the Penang State Government in 1990 with the concession providing for reclamation and development in phases of approximately 980 acres of land along the north-east coast of Tanjung Tokong. Reclamation did commence but setbacks resulting from the 1998 Asian Financial Crisis left the site idle for many years, becoming a partially reclaimed area clearly visible from Gurney Drive. In 2003, Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O) through its subsidiary Tanjung Pinang Development (TPD), assumed the rights, obligations and liabilities of the former concessionaire. In reviving the abandoned site, the development mix was reconfigured in favour of residential homes instead of the original focus on high density commercial properties. Despite the substantial initial acquisition and investment cost during still testing economic conditions, E&O completed the reclamation of Seri Tanjung Pinang Phase 1 (STP1), and held its maiden launch of terraced homes in 2005, with handover to purchasers in 2006. In almost a decade, the transformation has provided an innovative range of new homes and amenities, with Penangites forming the majority of residents at STP1, followed gradually by a regional and international audience of purchasers. With the 240 acres of STP1 nearing completion, Seri Tanjung Pinang Phase 2 (STP2) is the natural progression for E&O to apply its efforts in accordance with the terms of the Concession Agreement."//

//"Seri Tanjung Pinang (STP) encompasses two phases and is located at the northeast coast of Tanjung Tokong, Penang, Malaysia. The first phase (STP1) of the reclamation comprising 240 acres was completed in 2006. Reclamation of the 760-acre second phase (STP2) which commenced in 2016, is underway. As a matter of background, 20 acres within the 240-acre STP1 was surrendered to the Penang State Government for the Penang Outer Ring Road (PORR) alignment. These 20 acres will be replaced in STP2 and hence, the original acreage of STP2 (740 acres as per Concession Agreement) has been increased to 760 acres. Over and above the concession rights to reclaim the land for STP, TPD is also reclaiming at its own cost, 131 acres off the Gurney Drive foreshore for the Penang State Government."// (Tanjung Pinang Development: [[https://www.stp2.my/concept-layout.php|Tanjung Pinang Development: CONCEPT & LAYOUT]]).

===== 2015: Perancangan Penambakan Seterusnya =====
| |
Sementara itu, pada tahun 2015, kerajaan negeri mencadangkan penambakan 3 pulau buatan di selatan Pulau Pinang, lalu mendapat tentangan nelayan di sekitar kawasan tersebut:-
| |
//"The fishermen here have everything they need. The sea has always provided for us,” said Tuan Haji Zakaria, a 60-year-old fisherman from Sungai Batu. His father too was a fisherman and the fishing village where he grew up had fished from the sea for the past many generations. Sungai Batu is just one of the eight fishing villages found along the 17km southern coastline of Penang island, extending from Batu Maung at the east point to Gertak Sanggul on the west. \\
..... \\ | |
Amidst the growing pressure of urbanisation, the southern coast fishing villages remained the last of its kind in Penang island. Tucked quietly along the gentle bay where fishes, shrimps and crabs thrive in seasons, Tuan Haji Zakaria called this place the ‘golden area’. \\
\\ | |
However, life as he knows it would dramatically change when the state government announced a proposal to reclaim three artificial islands in 2015[2]. The 4,500 acres of reclaimed islands would sit squarely on the waters where Tuan Haji Zakaria and thousands other traditional fishermen like himself had depended on for their livelihood. The ambitious project dubbed as the “Penang South Reclamation” or PSR (recently rebranded to “Penang South Islands”) would see most of its reclaimed land area auctioned off by the state government of Penang to the highest bidder to raise enough fund for the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP). \\
..... \\ | |
Land reclamation then and now: If there was anywhere in Malaysia which is no stranger to land reclamation, it would be Penang island. Since its colonial days in the 19th century, the British reclaimed a swathe of mudflats to create Beach Street for its entrepôt expansion. After Malaysia gained independence in 1957, Penang initiated the growth of Malaysia’s manufacturing industry in the 1970s – which sits on the reclaimed coastal zone of Bayan Lepas. In recent times, more coastal areas are reclaimed but for upscale residential and commercial properties, such as Queensbay, Karpal Singh Drive, The Light and Tanjung Tokong which also include a luxury yacht marina. The stretch along Gurney Drive, once a scenic public waterfront is now barricaded and reclaimed to build a public and commercial seafront park and a private wellness centre. The reclamation may possibly provide a section for an undersea highway that would connect Penang island to its mainland."//
